Many people feel sorry for dogs in need and would like to help in some way but have no idea of what sorts of things are needed. You can help in so many different ways. The possibilities are as endless as the special talents that each person has. It doesn't matter how little or how much or how often, every little bit helps and that is what matters. Here are just a few ways in which you can help.
- Responsible breeding Rescue Support. Many responsible breeders support Rescue every time they breed a litter by making a donation to the Rescue fund ( ie:$5.00 per puppy). In this way, our happy, healthy, well bred puppies help less fortunate Havanese.
- Donations. Monetary donations of any amount can be donated to the HFC rescue general fund or, if you prefer, your donation may be designated for a specific purpose, such as spay/neutering, vet care, food, supplies.
- Sponsorship. Sponsor a Rescue Havanese by donating a specific service for one dog, such as the cost of a spay/neuter, vaccinations etc
- Donate a Book. 'Second Hand Dog: How to Turn Yours into a First-Rate Pet', by Carol Lea Benjamin. is an excellent choice that could be sent with a Rescue dog to its new home.
- New Owner Info Packet. Anything you can think of that may help to make the transition easier for a re-homed Havanese: training tips; lists of local veterinarians, groomers, pet supply stores, obedience schools; gift certificate to a pet supply stores; dog food coupons; and whatever you can spare that a new family can find handy.
- Grooming. Donate a free grooming to a rescue dog.
- Training. If you're a trainer, you can offer some training for a rescue dog.
- Time. Even if you do not have the time, space or resources to commit to being a Foster home, you can still help. You can volunteer to be a dog walker or to exercise a dog with a trip to the park or a play date or visit with a well behaved dog or children to help socialize a rescue dog, and to assess its personality in different situations or anything else which can help a Rescue dog prepare for placement into a permanent home.
- Fund raising. Rescue can be expensive. we are always looking for new and innovative ideas for fundraising.
- Rescue Benefit Auction. Collect, donate, or make one or more items for our annual Rescue Benefit Auction. Its also easy and fun to come to our annual online auction where each and every bid goes to support Rescue.
- Volunteer. Volunteers are always needed to help at Booths at an HFC sponsored events for Education.
- Shuttle Service. You can help get a rescue dog from point A to point B. Perhaps you can volunteer to help with transportation between a shelter and foster home. Or between a Foster home and permanent placement or even for veterinary visits while in care.
- Foster Care. Provide a foster home or interim care for a rescue Havanese pending permanent placement.
